SD Soybean Hosts Regional Soybean Success Seminars Beginning January 29, 2018

Learn more about increasing your soybean yields by attending a regional Soybean Success Seminar hosted by the South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council (SDSRPC) and the South Dakota Soybean Association (SDSA) January 29 – February 1, 2018.

Utilizing data and best management practices collected from South Dakota soybean growers throughout nearly a decade of Yield Contests, these agronomist-led educational seminars focus on management practices to help farmers increase soybean yields and quality.

“Soybean Success Seminars are a good example of checkoff dollars put to work to provide information to South Dakota’s soybean growers that will improve their yields and bottom line,” said Jon Schaeffer, a second-generation Viborg farmer who chairs the South Dakota Soybean Yield Contest committee and is Treasurer of the South Dakota Soybean Association board.

The Soybean Success Seminars will feature one of two speakers: Al Kluis, broker, trader and owner of Kluis Commodities or Dr. Elywnn Taylor, agricultural meteorologist.

What You Need to Know about 2018 Market & Climate Outlook

Al Kluis, broker, trader and owner of Kluis Commodities, will provide a historic review of U.S. soybean and corn revenue at the Mitchell and Sioux Falls Soybean Success Seminar locations. Using historic charts he will explain the reasons he believes farm prices and profits will improve in 2018.

During his Soybean Success Seminar presentation, Kluis will provide specific price targets where producers should consider making cash and new crop sales.

“Growers will leave this seminar with all of the tools to put together an effective grain marketing plan for 2018,” said Kluis, who has more than 40 years of experience in the grain industry.

Dr. Elywnn Taylor is an agricultural meteorologist who will present at the Aberdeen and Watertown Soybean Success Seminar locations. During his Soybean Success Seminar, he will provide a 2018 crop weather outlook, highlighting the important months for soybean growers – August and July.

He will discuss how he thinks the current La Nina will impact the 2018 growing season and methods Midwestern farmers have to evaluate the ongoing weather risk to production and price for soybeans and corn.

“Every farmer now has access to the developing weather and crop information essential to evaluate the market,” said Taylor, an Extension Climatologist at Iowa State University.

The Soybean Success Seminars begin at 10 a.m. and will run until 1 p.m. at the following locations. Advanced registration is not required.
