Lead Your Soybean Checkoff

The South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council (SDSRPC) is seeking farmers to fill leadership positions on a state and national level. Apply to become a director of how soybean checkoff dollars are used to create markets worldwide, develop new uses, and drive the demand for South Dakota soybeans.

The South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (SDSRPC) is the farmer-led organization charged with investing and leveraging checkoff dollars on behalf of South Dakota soybean farmers.

The SDSRPC board of directors includes farmer-leaders from nine districts.

There are three seats on the board available for election in 2022. One director will be elected from each of the following districts: Three, Four, and Seven.

You are an eligible candidate if you are a:

  • A South Dakota resident
  • Participating grower in the soybean checkoff and plant, raise, and harvest soybeans from more than ten acres
  • Resident of the district you wish to represent

District Three consists of Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner counties.

District Four consists of Brookings, Lake, Miner, Moody, and Sanborn counties.

District Seven consists of Brown, Campbell, Corson, Edmunds, Harding, McPherson, and Perkins counties.

If you are interested in serving on the board of directors for SDSRPC, contact Becky Cypher at 605.330.9942 for a petition. Petitions must be completed and returned to the SDSRPC office by 4:30 p.m. on April 14, 2022.

If more than one eligible candidate completes a petition in a district, elections will be held May 17 – June 16, 2022.

United Soybean Board

The South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (SDSRPC) is seeking soybean farmers interested in filling two of South Dakota’s four seats with the United Soybean Board (USB), for a three-year term.
USB is composed of 78 farmer-leaders who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial utilization, industry relations, market access and supply. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the soybean checkoff.

You are an eligible candidate if you are:

  • A South Dakota resident,
  • At least 21 years of age and
  • Involved in a farming operation that raises soybeans.

To be considered for the national leadership position, interested farmers need to submit a USDA Background Information Form to the SDSRPC office before the April 20, 2022 deadline. To obtain this form, contact Becky Cypher at the South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council office at 605.330.9942.

The SDSRPC board members will submit to the U.S. Department of Agriculture a “first preferred choice nominee” and “second preferred choice alternate” for each open position. The Secretary of Agriculture will make the final appointment. USB and USDA do not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, marital status, or political beliefs. The chosen individual will begin serving a three-year term in December 2022. Each individual appointed is eligible to serve a total of three consecutive terms.
