The 19th Annual AgOutlook Conference and Trade Show is December 7th in Sioux Falls. Valerie Willson is new as program manager on the South Dakota Soybean staff and says AgOutlook, a free event, will be at the Best Western Ramkota Inn Exhibit Hall.

“We have close to 60 vendors that are exhibiting the latest and the greatest technologies for agriculture,” said Willson. “Any kind of business that has to do with agriculture, farmers, ranchers, they’re there, and they’re seeking to have conversations with these farmers that will be joining us.”

Among the conference speakers, Willson said the first, an Early Riser session Thursday morning, is South Dakota State University soils and agronomy specialist Dr. Cheryl Reese.

“She is going to be talking soybean yields and the yield contest. And then Eric Snodgrass is going to be talking about the weather and the different impacts that you’re going to see this year. Our middle speaker is going to be Don Norton, a strategic leadership consultant. Many of you might know him from SDARL (South Dakota Ag and Rural Leadership); he’s going to be talking about leadership,” she said. “And then, to wrap things up, we’re going to have Tregg Cronin on what’s happening in the markets.”

There is also a noon meal in the trade show area as well as a social hour at 4:00 p.m.

December 6th, the evening before the AgOutlook Conference and Trade Show, is the Uniting Agriculture Social. “We’re going to be at the Washington/Lincoln Rooms at the Ramkota,” said Willson. “It’s a wonderful event where people can come, talk about agriculture, have different ideas, exchange business cards, and it’s just a fun way for everybody to be involved and collaborate with each other.”

A native of southeastern Montana, Willson was raised on a farm but is new to soybeans.

“It’s definitely a learning curve,” she conceded, referring to getting settled into her new position. “It’s amazing the amount of things that soybean is in and could potentially be in. It’s absolutely amazing.”
