FFA Video Contest Winners Rack-Up Thousands of Views

The South Dakota Soybean Association (SDSA) and the South Dakota Department of Agriculture (SDDA) are excited to announce the winners of the 2012 FFA Video Contest. Winners were determined by the videos with the most views.
First Place: “We Built This Country on Family Farms” with 51,064 views, submitted by Elizabeth Renner and Rachel Schartz from the West Central FFA Chapter.
Second Place: “A Word From Grandma” with 31,623 views, submitted by Megan Dolly, Jorry Lammers and Eric Wolfe from the West Central FFA Chapter.
Third Place: “Family Farmers Gangnam Style” with 23,587 views, submitted by Malary McKenney, Lauren Kulzer, Brooke Ollerich and Mykah Wiseman from the Tri-Valley FFA Chapter.
The FFA Video contest is designed to involve youth in the advocacy of today’s agriculture. This year, entrants were tasked with creating a video to share the story of today’s family farms, specifically that “98% of all farms are family owned.”
The team submitting the first place video receives $1,000 to use for advisor-approved activities, as well as $1,000 for their chapter. The second place team receives $750 for advisor-approved FFA activities and $750 for their chapter. The third place team receives $500 for advisor-approved FFA activities and $500 for their chapter.
The contest was open to all high school FFA students in South Dakota. FFA members submitted 19 total entries. All of the entries were sent to a panel of five preliminary judges. Based on the judges’ score, the Top 10 were posted on SDSA’s Vimeo Account, and the viewers decided the rest from there. The winners of the 2012 FFA Video Contest were determined by the videos with the most plays on November 15.
