See for Yourself Pacific Northwest Mission 2016
With support from the South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council, soybean farmers traveled to Washington State last week to tour port facilities and learn about the importance of international markets to the soybean industry. With over 60% of South Dakota’s soybeans exported overseas, international marketing has never been more important. In its fifth year, the See for Yourself experience allows South Dakota soybean farmers the opportunity to see firsthand how their soybean checkoff works for them.
South Dakota Farmers Wrap Up See for Yourself Mission
South Dakota farmers participating in South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council’s See for Yourself mission found themselves at TEMCO on day two. Located at the Port of Tacoma, TEMCO is a 50-50 joint venture between CHS and Cargill. During a typical year, TEMCO will handle 5 MMT of grain with 60% of that product being soybeans. Most shipping of soybeans takes place between October to December with all of the soybean exports destined for China.

As the See for Yourself group continued their journey in Washington State, they found themselves at the Export Grain Terminal (EGT). EGT, LLC is a joint venture between Bunge North America and ITOCHU International Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Japanese trading company ITOCHU Corp.

Grow Above and Beyond – Enter the South Dakota Soybean Yield Contest
Submit your entry form by August 31st for the South Dakota Soybean Yield Contest! The annual South Dakota Soybean Yield Contest was created to recognize and reward South Dakota’s top soybean producers. The contest encourages new and innovative soybean management practices, and it also provides valuable agronomic data for farmers across the state. (Not to mention there are some great prizes involved!)
