2020 was a year few will ever forget for a number of reasons, especially in agriculture. For the first half of 2020, things looked as bleak as they had at any time in the last decade thanks to coronavirus, uncertainty regarding the “phase-one” trade agreement with China and the prospect of big crops in the United States and South America. As we finished 2020, the landscape changed dramatically with Chinese demand back in full force, U.S. crop sizes continuing to decline and major question marks about South American production. Looking ahead to 2021, the agriculture space has gone from needing to find additional demand to needing to find additional supply. Market fundamentals more closely resemble those from the late 2000s and early 2010s, offering producers great opportunities if they can take advantage.
