The application deadline has now passed. Watch for more information about the See for Yourself Pacific Northwest mission here.
With over 60% of South Dakota’s soybeans exported overseas, international marketing has never been more important. To encourage farmers to look beyond the elevator, the South Dakota soybean checkoff has developed a “See For Yourself” program. The See For Yourself program allows farmers to experience the export process firsthand, and see their checkoff in action.
See for Yourself Pacific Northwest – March 13-16, 2017
From March 13-16, 2017, participants will get a firsthand look at export locations throughout Washington state. Attendees will also gain valuable knowledge of how their checkoff dollars are invested to promote their soybean crop both domestically and internationally.
The 15 chosen farmers will learn how soybeans make the journey across the globe through tours of several port facilities, including Tacoma Export Marketing Company, the Port of Grays Harbor and an AGP export facility. Other tour stops will include BNSF Railway and two aquaculture locations: the Northwest Fisheries Science Center, a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and Abernathy Fish Technology Center. Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing animal agriculture markets for soybean meal.
