With over 60% of South Dakota’s soybean crop exported overseas, understanding the importance international markets is critical to farmers in the state.
The South Dakota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (SDSRPC) encourages South Dakota soybean farmers to apply for the 2018 See For Yourself program in Mexico. Ten farmers will be selected to travel to Mexico, February 18-24, 2018, where they will experience first-hand how the South Dakota soybean checkoff is working for them in the country.
While in the country, South Dakota soybean farmers will have the opportunity to meet with some of the largest buyers of U.S. soybeans and soybean meal. Tour stops include Mexican ports, hog and dairy farms, aquaculture facilities, feed mills, plant tours and meetings with buyers of U.S. soybeans.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must be soybean farmers and pay the South Dakota soybean checkoff. The deadline to apply is September 21, 2017.
A committee of SDSRPC farmer directors will select 10 participants. Applicants will be notified by October 3 if selected. SDSRPC will need a final commitment by October 12 from selected applicants.
The cost to participate is $300. Payment is required by October 12. SDSRPC will cover hotel, most meals, and travel. Any required immunizations, passport, and souvenir expenses will be the responsibility of participants.
